Darwin Group understand that nursery education has much to contribute in meeting young children’s needs, be they physical, emotional, social or intellectual.

St Barts Primary School - Playground

Our team of architects are specialists in early year’s educational provision and will design your new building with a strong consideration to the following acts and guidelines:

  • OFSTED National Daycare Regulations
  • Equality Act 2010
  • Child Protection Act Guidelines
  • Special Educational Need (SEN) and Disability Act (SENDA) to ensure the environment is  safe and accessible

Our design approach takes account of what is known about young children and how they learn and play and any Nursery Building provided by Darwin Group will have facility for outdoor physical play, well-furnished quiet areas for less vigorous activities and generous space to encourage movement and active participation. The following elements will be specifically considered based upon children and carer numbers:

  • Overall Building Size
  • External Play Spaces and optimum mix of hard and soft provision
  • Covered Outdoor Learning/ Play Space (we often extend the roof line out beyond the building which avoids the need for a stand-alone canopy)
  • Entrance and Cloak Area (which should be as welcoming as possible)
  • Play Rooms and Storage Requirements
  • Children’s Toilets and Cleaners Stores
  • Utility Room
  • Staff Room and Toilet Accommodation
  • Administration Office

Our unique approach to construction means that a new 60 place Nursery Building can be built in as little as 8 weeks onsite, including all external play space.
